Housekeeping

Tweet Nothing much to report here at the Space Station as we are enjoying holiday cheer, friends and family over the next few weeks, so we're just posting a Good Housekeeping edition tonight, most likely devoid of snarky commentary, but if look hard enough you might catch a snarky phrase or two....

- The TBA has reenergized its Facebook page, so if you moonlight on FB be sure to join our Fan Page to keep you up to date on weekly posts and goings on around our group.

- The 09 Photo Contest voting is underway at the TBA website and has even received some love from Claire Novak over at the NTRA website. Someone is trying to screw up my last place finish and voted on my Precious Passion Breeders' Cup photo (which Handride told me he hopes I get a tripod for Christmas). I want names...

- Zipse at the Track has an interesting post up at the TBA Bloodhorse page which is receiving some serious commentary regarding a projected path for Rachel Alexandra's 2010 campaign, check it out.

- I am honored to be the Thoroughbred Racing in New York (TRNY) Facebook group member of the week, mucho thanks to Ernie Munick for this accolade. (If you want to see me in circa 1980 hoop shorts, it's a good laugh btw)

- We've started a new TBA poll initiative (a collaboration with The Knight Sky Racing Blog) which collects data results from each blog showing the poll (super cool). A new and improved poll will be presented each week, highlighting issues that are hot in the horse racing world.

- Anyone else miss the Wind Gatherer? I haven't had to look up a word in months....

- I've kinda been out of the loop today, is it true that Syracuse is considering joining the Big Ten, really?? Oh, this could be good with a Space Gal/Penn State rivalry to no end....or should I say State Penn?

Rally Caps

I received a Facebook invitation for the rally being staged on Thursday afternoon at the Fort Erie Town Hall titled "SAVE FORT ERIE RACETRACK RALLY PART TWO." The rally per the invite page is scheduled from Noon to 4pm and the description of the invitation reads:

****Please note: the DATE for the rally has been changed. It is now January 15 at noon.****We were told there would be an answer as to the status of the racetrack's future by January 15. ** If this is not forthcoming by then *** then a rally will be held January 15 - Let's make it big. Let's show our support for the track and that we need to know where we stand. Spread the word to everyone in the town of Fort Erie and beyond, that you can! Bring signs - and horses if possible.

Currently it appears that over 300 Facebook invites were sent out. I think I might scoot over the bridge at lunch time to support the effort (and grab some of that awesome Ft. Erie chinese cuisine), it sure would be a shame to lose a track that has been open since 1867 (see Buffalo News blog here). Keep an eye on the CanGamble site, who always has up to date information on this issue.

So, if you're in the neighborhood (Buffalo and So. Ontario readers), stop over and put your rally cap on.

'King Cobra' Pat Biancone is back. His one year suspension for possession of cobra venom in one of his Keeneland barns expired on November 1st. According to the DRF, he intends to apply for some stalls at Santa Anita this winter. "Snake venom has been known to be injected to deaden or "block" a horse's joint or nerve."

The Bad Cat (El Gato Malo) has returned to the track working out at Hollywood Park this week, we'll keep an eye out for his next start. He returns after a leg injury suffered in the Lone Star Derby (G3) in May.

Well, it helped O-bomb-a win an election, so why not give it a shot. NYRA announced this week that it has launched a Facebook site in addition to a MySpace site to recruit a younger fan base. The President-elect's Facebook site had over 2.7 million members compared to his GOP opponent's 622K. These social networking sites are becoming more and more important in every day life and connecting with others. His campaign certainly was the best on-line campaign ever staged in a presidential election. Hopefully NYRA can get the same kind of traction. As of this morning they had 581 fans (including yours truly).

The Bills are in an offensive lull and it won't get any easier this week at Foxboro. Bad planning on my part, with the Sabres playing the Bruins tonight and Notre Dame in town to play the BC Eagles, a tremendous road trip opportunity went by the wayside. Guess I'll just stay home and enjoy the 70 (!) degree Buffalo weather. Someone said we usually get a bit of snow here.....
