A Bella Cavello Update and Around the Horn

With La Chica Rica being rested for her 6yo season next year, the Bella Cavello barn still has a few horses running at Mountaineer and had a nice winner last night. 5yo gelding Jeroboam out of Disco Rico (same sire as Chica) by Ninetyeight Karats, won a $5K claimer in the second, winning by an astounding 7 lengths. I happened to be watching TVG while blowing their Pick 4 contest and was excited to see the BC gelding sprint away in the stretch run of the 6 furlong race. Jeroboam (32-4-2-4) took home a $6K for the win and paid $4.40. Cheers to Jeroboam!

Unfortunately, Marty's Hunch (winner or place horse in 8 of 12 career races) didn't fare so well later in the card in the 8th at MNR, coming in last of six runners at 18-1, in a six furlong $10K allowance. He had hit the board in all 8 races (1st or 2nd actually) in 2008. He was shortening in distance but came up empty in the stretch while stalking the pace for the first half mile.

Lots happening over at the TBA homepage, where you can get widgets, toolbars and free PP's (oh my). Of course, you can keep up with all of the posts and happenings around the Alliance. Interesting marketing chatter being served up over at Handride and Pull the Pocket. Feeling for my ice-bound compadres in Saratoga and Boston....maybe this will make you feel a little better. GbG has her Xmas holiday guide up and it's been updated to reflect some new items so be sure to check back! Owning Racehorses is on to something with a reality TV concept (believe me we watch our fair share of reality television in the Space Den). Finally, a welcome to the newest TBA blogger and Wahoo lover, The Thoroughbred Brief, a blog detailing the musings of a third year law student with an interest in the legal underpinnings of the Thoroughbred industry.
