La Chica Returns and Unfortunate Tragedy

Western New York based stable Bella Cavello turns to its star mare La Chica Rica on Saturday night under the stars at Charles Town in the $100K Charles Town Distaff Sprint Stakes. As fellow TBA'er Winston from Gathering the Wind put it, she's going after one for the thumb, since she's won her last four races, including the $75K Hancock County Stakes at Mountaineer. She'll try and top the $400K lifetime earnings with a win and will face some tough company in this one. Grand Obsession trained by Eddie Kenneally appears to be the main competition in this 4 1/2 furlong sprint. Chica has been off since June 27th so she should be fresh and is coming off a nice work on August 13th. Best of luck to the team at Bella Cavello.

On a sadder note, Gold Marie, a 3yo filly by Golden Missile (out of Cherry Flambe) bred by Adena Springs had to be put down two weeks ago after her race at Charles Town. She had taken a very bad step three quarters of the way through the race and snapped her canon bone beyond repair. Bella Cavello had hand selected her as a 2yo in training at the March 2006 Ocala sale wherein they spent three days getting to know her before purchasing her. She traveled to Maryland, Fort Erie, Toronto and back to Maryland over the past 2 1/2 years and per the managing partner, "she would look forward to training every day and race once every two to three weeks - she loved it." Marie was just starting to blossom, winning two starts ago and had her first try on grass prior to her breakdown. Per the managing partner of the BCS, "she was positioned to start grinding out a good living. Marie will be sadly missed - I hope she'll be running races in the sky." RIP Gold Marie.

Winston...not really said...

I said that?

Damn, I'm good.

Godspeed to Gold Marie and her connections.
